Job Training In A Supportive Learning Environment

Training programs include industry recognized credentials and internship components where students gain hands-on experience with the ultimate goal of job placement.

During 2023, Genesis Center placed over 145 individuals from our workforce training programs in jobs, with an average starting wage of $19.50/hr.  Genesis graduates fill critical positions at major Rhode Island employers like CVS Health, Lifespan, and Providence Community Health Centers.

Genesis Center offers several Health Care training pathways for those interested in a career in the medical field. Participants learn content that will familiarize them with the healthcare field and prepare them to work in the industry.

  • Trainings available for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, and Pharmacy Technician
  • Programs combine both classroom learning and hands-on training to give students the skills they need on the job
  • Obtain credentials such as American Heart Association First Aid/CPR training, Alzheimer’s care, Nutrition, Respite care and more.
  • All participants may earn the opportunity to complete an internship in the healthcare industry; this experience helps participants build their resume, and many students are hired upon successful completion of their internships.
  • All participants work with our Financial Opportunity Center® staff throughout their training. Assistance includes benefit application help, resume & job coaching, financial coaching & credit counseling, and digital navigation.

Culinary

Genesis Center’s Culinary Arts training program is an 8-week program where students can learn from a Curriculum based on the American Culinary Federation standards, including food service sanitation and safety, nutrition, food preparation and knife skills, cold food production and presentation, dining room service, menu planning, units of measurement and math for planning menus and scaling recipes. 

Students will also get the chance to spend time at the Culinary Hub of Providence (CHOP) during their training and potentially work at CHOP post-graduation as either a standard employee or as part of a multi-employer apprenticeship program.

  • Participants wil  have the opportunity to test for industry recognized credentials including ServSafe Food Manager, ServSafe Alcohol Service, and ServSafe Allergen Awareness. 
  • We utilize the online Rouxbe culinary training curriculum platform to manage progress in culinary skills and work towards culinary training certification. 
  • Upon training completion, students can intern with employer partners or at the Culinary Hub (CHOP) while honing their skills and confidence in the kitchen.
  • All participants work with our Financial Opportunity Center® staff throughout their training. Assistance includes benefit application help, resume & job coaching, financial coaching & credit counseling, and digital navigation.
