Annually, The Genesis Center serves over 600 individuals in its adult education and workforce development programs and up to one hundred children in its childcare program. Our staff and students represent more than twenty-five countries and ten language groups.  The self-sufficiency of our clients depends on learning English, accessing essential life skills and obtaining occupational/job skills training so they can support themselves and better provide for the future of their families.

The Genesis Center's adult education classes and occupational/job skills training focus on enabling family members to improve their employment skills, pay scales, and prospects for promotion.  On-site childcare helps adult students attend classes knowing that their children are well cared for.

as a "Model Program"

July 22, 2014

PROVIDENCE, RI

Donald S. Keel, President and CEO of The Genesis Center is pleased to announce today that The Genesis Center has been chosen today by Vice President Joseph Biden for an honor bestowed upon only 30 nonprofit organizations around the country as part of the National Skills Coalition. The Genesis Center was selected as a "model program."

At noon, President Obama signed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) bill and Vice President Biden released the review of federal workforce programs that exemplify success.

Since January, the President has been shining a brighter spotlight on job-driven training as an essential pillar of our nation's economic strategy.

Today, the Administration has called for job-driven training across federal agencies and has profiled successful local efforts that he wants to see replicated throughout the country.

The Genesis Center is honored to be one of the local efforts featured as a national model, " where the will to achieve meets the skill to succeed", The Genesis Center has been educating and enabling people from around the globe, not only how to speak English, but also how to become computer literate, build financial literacy, and make it in the American workplace.

For over three decades, we have enabled immigrants from all the world's continents to become productive, self-sufficient members of our American society .

We are an adult education center where adult immigrants and refugees learn English, survival skills, citizenship, computer skills, health information, math and much more so they and their families can become self-sufficient. This year we served over 600 adults.

We are a childcare center serving nearly 100 children ages 6 weeks to five years of age. Our children participate in a variety of programs addressing their intellectual, social, emotional and cultural development.

We are a workforce development center where students learn to be chefs and health care workers. Our job training programs consist of classroom instruction, hands-on experience and internships. This year, over 70% of our workforce students gained employment. Agency-wide, we helped place students in 135 jobs.

We look forward to continuing to share what we have learned about "what works" as the Administration moves its job-driven training agenda forward.
